ARNOLD SALVATERRA October 17, 2014 Times Leader Save | ARNOLD SALVATERRA Arnold Richard Salvaterra, 96, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 11, 2014, in Columbus, OH. He was born on October 28, 1917, in Bellaire, OH, to Richard and Catherine (Scandolari) Salvaterra. A graduate of Bellaire High School, where he played quarterback for the Big Reds football team; attended West Nottingham Academy, the University of Michigan, and graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Marketing. He was a veteran of World War II where he rose to the rank of Lt. Senior Grade in the United States Naval Air Corps; he served in the Pacific with Air Transport. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary L. Lepo; they moved to Columbus, OH and eventually settled in Upper Arlington, where he and his wife and daughter were members of St. Andrews Catholic Church. He was retired from Insurance Services of Ohio. He enjoyed football, golf, and woodworking. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather. He will be remembered as a gentle and reserved man of integrity and honesty, who had a wonderful sense of humor, who was wise, patient, brave, selfless, compassionate, creative, curious, funny, ornery, but always a gentleman. But above all else he will be remembered for the unconditional love he showed his family, friends and all he came to meet and know through his lifes journey. He was dearly loved and respected by so many, and he will be so dearly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Joe, Albert; and his sister, Alba. Arnold is survived by the love of his life and wife of 68 years, Mary L. (Lepo) Salvaterra, daughter, Toni M. Bahnsen, son-in-law, Dennis D. Bahnsen, grand daughters, Kimberly B. Showalter (Brent), and Christie L. Bahnsen, and many nieces and nephews The family wishes to thank the staff at Arlington Court for the loving care and comfort they provided. A private service will be held at a later date. Family has entrusted Schoedinger Northwest Chapel with final arrangements. Contributions in Arnolds name may be made to the American Heart Association, heart.org., or to the charity of your choice.
