ARRRGHH ! There should be an app that allows me to slap a vast collection of twitter users. When it comes to a womans reproductive rights, we make the case that its her body, her choice. Thats the case we should be making it IS her body. It IS her choice. And its hypocritical to say otherwise when we live in a society where you can just shoot someone who is on your property. But then this little 12-year old blonde white girl sees a black hairstyle, loves it, and posts pictures on Twitter of herself wearing it there is no Its her body, its her choice. Instead she gets a ton of backlash of people calling her racist and ignorant and accusing her of cultural appropriation. Suddenly her body has communal value, and shes expected to make decisions based on someone elses view of what is appropriate for society. Now if she was an entertainer, one might make the point that decisions that were made with regards to her image and presentation exploit styles created by a demographic who faces discrimination and lacks societal advantages that she has. But shes not an entertainer. Shes a girl who likes a hairstyle, wears it, and then goes to school. But now all of a sudden she must correct her behavior for the good of all race relations, as if what she chose to do had any value at all before other people knew about her. Detractors have posted articles where little black girls have gotten in trouble at school because they chose to wear their hair naturally, completely missing the point that those articles were unfortunate because it shouldnt happen to ANYBODY. And the worse part is, she then had to post an apology for a fashion choice she made in her day-to-day life. But you know what? Rock on, little blonde girl with box braids. lovebscott/news/12-year-old-white-girl-gets-harshly-criticized-for-showing-off-her-blonde-box-braids-on-social-media-photos
