ART@203 - Dawn Chorus by Jifang Black Sunday 4th–Saturday 24th January 2015 Opens 5:30pm on Saturday 3rd January, all welcome. Originally from Shandong Province, China, Jifang has a 3 year degree in Art and Art History from the China Calligraphy and Art Correspondence University and a Diploma of Fine Arts from Shandong Fine Arts University. She was curator of a large state-owned art gallery in the provincial capital of Jinan for over eight years and worked with classical paintings from the Ming and Qing dynasties through to contemporary artwork from modern times. Since moving to Nelson over 20 years ago, she has developed a particular passion for painting native birds. Her distinctive style, using mainly water colours and gouache captures fragile and powerful evocative moments such as a majestic falcon taking flight or an agile fantail fluttering through kowhai.
