Expect a few flashback scenes and the exploration of Bob’s backstory here. Present day: Maggie, Sasha and Bob seem to be struggling more in this episode as Maggie is still determined to find Glenn, not believing for a second that he would ever give up on her. She has an unshakeable belief that her man is alive and well. Sasha isn’t sure and Bob is convinced that she’s scared to go anywhere because she doesn’t want to know whether or not Tyreese has been killed. The three find a sign for this “Sanctuary” that other characters are in search of. Maggie insists that they follow the tracks there. Sasha has her doubts and suspects a trap but Bob throws his lot in with Maggie. They head off to camp for the night and on waking up, discover that Maggie has already gone leaving them behind. She leaves them a note in the dirt saying she doesn’t want them to risk their lives. Bob once again insists that they have to find her but worryingly, while walking along the track they discover signs written in blood. Will Maggie find Glenn? Always resourceful, Maggie has been killing walkers and using their blood to leave messages for Glenn telling him where he’ll find her. As Bob and Sasha continue in their search they see the signs and Sasha finds a place where she thinks they should stay. Bob heads off still looking for their comrade and leaves Sasha, who heads for the safe house. While looking out the window she spots Maggie on the ground outside. As she touches the window it falls, smashing the glass and attracting walkers. Maggie and Sasha fight off the zombies before leaving together….. As for Beth and Daryl, they seem to have a better time throughout this episode. After teaching Beth how to hunt they find a house, though it’s extremely clean and Daryl isn’t convinced it’s deserted. It’s a funeral home but for now it seems safe. They find a stash of food in the kitchen, things they probably haven’t seen since the outbreak began so they make themselves at home. Daryl, prepared as ever, sets up defences around the residence to alert them of anyone outside. After a false alarm due to the presence of a dog, eventually the walkers do appear. Lots, of them. Daryl shouts to Beth and tells her to run as he fights them off. Once he makes it outside he sees her bag on the ground and a car speeds off into the distance. Who has Beth? As he runs after the car cameras cut to him approaching the railroad where he sits on the ground, exhausted. After a short time he’s greeted by a new group of people and after a tense standoff, where punches are thrown, the people tentatively make introductions. *************************************************** The episode opens with Bob, alone in the wild, finding new ways to survive the attack from the walkers while journeying alone. The episode tackles two big questions that have been raised around this issue in past episodes. One – is it better to better to keep hope, even if that comes with risk? The second – are there still good people left? We follow a couple of small groups – a good number to do justice to the show’s themes while keeping the story moving. There are twists, some terrifying moments, and of course plenty of walkers to kill. This was a solid episode that I really enjoyed. If comparing it against the rest of the season, I would rate it probably somewhere in the middle in terms of quality – which is pretty awesome because this season has set a very high bar. One of the things I particularly appreciated was a deeper look at Bob and Sasha. Those two characters have remained mostly unexplored up until this point, and I really enjoyed getting to know them better and seeing their relationship deepen. Their conversation continues along the thread that they started earlier – whether they should be striving for more than to survive just to survive. Both actors Sonequa Martin-Green and Lawrence Gilliard Jr. deliver strong performances and succeed in further rounding out their characters. Here are few teases to leave you with: - One member of our group makes a surprising alliance - There’s an event that happens that has the potential to be a major turning point for a character - There’s a romantic moment - A new everyday object is turned into a zombie-killing weapon
