ARTS AND CULTURE DR. JUDEA AND RUTH PEARL, *know all too well the risks of journalist take to report the truth. Their son, Daniel Pearl was murdered in 2002 while on assignment for The Wall Street Journal in Pakistan. That same year the Pearls launched an international network of concerts to honor his legacy as a musician and journalists. Every October ,the month of his birth Daniel Pearl World Music Days concerts are held across the world to reaffirm humanitys tolerance and peace.. WE continue to do our share of using music to empower, inspire and unite people around their common humanity, said Mrs. Pearl , and [ we ] continue to believe that , as Pablo Casals said , It may very well be music that will save the world... Mrs. Pearl together with her husband , Dr.Judea Pearl, spoke at the 13th annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days concert hosted by the SGI-USAs Ikeda Kings Orchestra before 700 people at the SGI-USA WORLD CULTURE CENTER in Santa Monica , California The concert , which showcased big band jazz, swing and Latin music , also celebrated the 54th anniversary of World Peace Day, Oct.2,1960 , when SGI President Daisaku Ikeda embarked on his global journey to spread Nichiren Buddhism, starting from the U.S. In a message to World Music Days, President Barack Obama praised the International network of concerts , whose mission is to unite passionate, thoughtful individuals who are dedicated to what we can build together, rather than what can be destroyed WE WILL PREVAIL We are doing something! !! If people dont get the opportunity to do something together; they lose hope.. What advice do you have for youth who may have given up hope and confidence in the future? Ruth Pearl .. I Think they should look at whats happening in Hong Kong [referring to the recent Hong Kong protests, also known as the Umbrella Revolution. The protest leader , Joshua Wong, is 17 years old ]. At 17 ,he became a leader. He is a spokesperson. Its amazing! Youth , they are the ones who are going to lead us to peace. . They should never give up hope..
