ARTwalk Curator needed at The Ordway I. The Ordway: The Ordway, recognized as one of the U.S.’s leading not-for-profit performing arts centers, is home to a wide variety of performances throughout the year that encompass the finest in American musical theater, world music, dance, and vocal artists. Performances take place in the 1,900-seat Music Theater, and beginning in March 2015, a new 1,100-seat concert hall will be added. III. Position Purpose: The ARTwalk Curator is responsible for curating the 2015 ARTwalk, and annual exhibition of student artwork in downtown St. Paul in conjunction with the Ordway’s Flint Hills International Children’s Festival. IV. Candidate Attributes: A successful candidate will have a passion for curating artwork, thrives in collaborative work environments, and excels at communicating with a variety of communications styles. Position Details: • Posting Date: 7/23/1414 • Closing Date: 8/31/14 • Employee Type: Temporary, Seasonal • Position Length: Sept 2014-June 2015 • Department: Education and Community Engagement • Reports to: Arts Learning Manager • Timing of Position Opening: October 1 • Salary: $9,375 total stipend, paid bi-weekly VI. Key Performance Areas • Coordinate with the Education Manager to develop advanced outreach to schools and community sites to maximize awareness and participation in the 2015 ARTwalk. • Coordinate with local business and community partners for the 2015 ARTwalk to ensure the communication and planning of pre-installation, installation, and tear down of the ARTwalk is successful. • Coordinate, catalogue, document, organize, and prepare all ARTwalk art submissions to ensure all artwork can be effectively organized and displayed. • Install and execute 2015 ARTwalk in a timely and efficient manner to ensure all submissions are effectively displayed. • Attend assigned events related to the 2015 ARTwalk to ensure all details are managed and completed. • Tear down the 2015 ARTwalk and ensure all participates receive their art submissions at the completion of the 2015 ARTwalk. • In collaboration with the Education Manager, provide work direction and instruction to the 2015 ARTwalk Intern, starting in January of 2015, to result in the motivation, recognition and retention of high performing interns that meet the Ordway’s business needs. VII. Other Qualifications • B.A. or B.S. in Arts Administration, Museum Administration, Art Curation, or related field. • Ability to occasional work evenings and weekends. • Prior experience curating art is required. • Experience working with diverse communities preferred but not required. • Prior clerical or administrative work in theatre, visual arts, non-profits, K-12 educational systems, or cultural environments preferred but not required. • Experience with community programming, project management, or event coordination preferred but not required. • Database experience preferred but not required.
