ARVADA, Colo. - A police officer assigned to Pomona High School found a way for a special needs student to buy the letter jacket he had earned, but couldnt afford. The Arvada Police Department describes Pomona High School junior Ronnie Ortega as a kind, soft-spoken student. He is in the special needs program, but achieved and maintained an impressive GPA of at least 3.7 that qualified him for the letter jacket. Ronnies family, however, did not have the means to purchase the jacket. Officer J. Glasmann became involved at this point. As the police department explained on Facebook, Officer Glasmann, wanting Ronnie to know the magnitude of his accomplishment, approached Sportline Team Sports in Arvada, who said they would do the letter jacket for $100. He then spoke with our partners at Westerra Credit Union, who have provided a grant to Officer Glasmann for the last four years to help students with clothes, backpacks, lunches and whatever they need to help them succeed in school. Westerra agreed to cover the cost of the jacket through their grant program. Ronnie was presented with the jacket Monday, in front of his grandparents and classmates.
