ASD STUDENTS, SCHOOLS POST STRONG DCAS PERFORMANCE This afternoon, the Delaware Department of Education (DDOE) released the results of its 2013-14 standardized testing – a program called the Delaware Comprehensive Assessment System or DCAS. You’ll be pleased to learn that the Appoquinimink School District ranked #1 in the state in all four assessment areas: reading, mathematics, science and social studies among K-12 districts. Some highlights to note: --We placed 1st or 2nd in Grade-level testing for 15 of 21 assessments --Relative to other districts in the state, we posted our best performance in nine years --We saw significant growth in Grade 3 English and Math --Students with disabilities made great strides, particularly at the elementary level, an area targeted by our strategic plan Educating the whole child is, and remains, a constant focus in our district. While standardized scores cannot tell the whole story, nevertheless, they provide an important means of measuring the academic success of our students. In the coming months, our Research, Development and Evaluation Department will conduct a detailed examination of the 2013-14 school year data. This information will be used to review and refine school- and district-level strategic plans in order to focus on areas for improvement. Appoquinimink residents will receive a comparative summary of scores with the release of our annual report in the Fall. For now, interested citizens can go to dstp.doe.k12.de.us/dcasor/default.aspx for the state’s online report.
