ASEAN TOURISM FORUM :TOURISM TOWARDS PEACE, PROSPERITY AND PARTNERSHIP ------------------------------------------ With the theme Tourism Towards Peace, Prosperity and Partnership 2015 ASEAN Tourism Forum was opened at the MICC-2 in Nay Pyi Taw, Monday with an address by President U Thein Sein. On the occasion, the President said that this forum is a milestone of establishment of ASEAN Community 2015. According to the list of World Tourism Organization, the arrival of tourists in ASEAN region was over 99.2 million in 2013 and it has increased to 11.75 percent. The visiting among ASEAN regions was 45.6 million and the amount of arrival of tourists had been 46 percent. The president also pointed out that the arrival of tourists to Myanmar was over 1 million in 2012, over 2.04 million in 2013 with 93.04 percent growth and over 3 million in 2014 with 51 percent growth. It is targeted to reach about 4.5 million tourists to Myanmar in 2015. With the help of international partner organizations, the policies on tourism sector have been enacted. The President also expressed his hope that the good results and benefits for tourism industry will come out among ASEAN and partnership countries through this meeting. The Editor in Chief of Lonely Planet Traveller Magazine presented Best in Travel AEC Country award for 2014 to Union Minister U Htay Aung. The Union Minister and officials also presented Best ASEAN Marketing and Promotional Campaign, Cultural Preservation Effort, Travel Article and Airline Programme awards to the winners. After the forum, the President hosted a dinner to the attendees at the MICC-2. Before the ceremony, the President also received tourism ministers from ASEAN countries and the General Secretary of World Tourism Organization and officials.
