Also, are they really asserting that no employee speaking Chinese is required for their quote Chinese market retail/ accommodation integrated resort? Yeah right. THE GOVERNMENT IS ALLOWING ASF TO PROCEED WITH THE PROPOSAL: FALSE The fact that DP Seeney has reneged in assessing & deciding the project now - as he told us personally - is sufficient evidence for us. ASF CONSORTIUM HAS ONLY ENGAGED WITH 48 MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY: FALSE We cited 330 people at the rally- consistent with ASF claims. No one has cited this figure of recent times. DREDGING WILL INCREASE FLOODING HAZARD IN THE BROADWATER: FALSE Really? See the hydrology reports tabled in parliament on the public record that detail this risk. Where is their independent expert report evidencing the contrary. THERE WILL BE NO WAY TO EVACUATE WAVE BREAK ISLAND: FALSE This is a new one - surely people can take the 4 lane bridge, hop into their luxury marinad yacht - or swim? It will only be 100 or so metres once ASF finish their dredging... tripling WBI. THE PROJECT WILL KILL THE BIRDS AND OTHER SPECIES ON WAVE BREAK ISLAND: FALSE This is true. Are they seriously suggesting the birds can live there whilst it is turned into a mini-Dubai? THE ECO-MARINE PARK WILL BE AN EXCLUSIVE RESORT: FALSE Given the language eco marine park is an ASF concoction for sand bars south of WBI, which are already about as eco as it gets - perhaps the confusion here is their self-named Moon Island which will house a country club and exclusive eco villas... if so, then its their renamings that generate any such confusions... LOCAL BUSINESSES WILL FOLD THROUGH THIS DEVELOPMENT: FALSE This is a blatant misrepresentation by ASF. There is no way 31,000 m2 of office space and 65000 m2 of retail will not affect existing shopping and commercial precincts and traders. Our economic expert says it is so big that it will quote hoover up development space on the GC for a decade. THE COMMUNITY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS LAND OR SEA AT ANY TIME: FALSE No one has ever said this though it is not false re the private hotel rooms and apartments and villas plus their private spaces, the ship terminal & infrastructure and related waterways as ships enter/ leave and no doubt vast tracts of other buildings.... and private spaces such as marinas and maybe even beaches. ASF also reserve the right to exclude anyone from anywhere for security or other reasons... MONEY WILL GO OFFSHORE: FALSE WOW newsflash- the two massive state-owned Chinese companies dredging 6 mill m3 from the Broadwater and constructing a 15000 person plus mega city - are working for free!!! And the US casino manager - also working for free- and the foreign-owned cruise lines - boating for free. What demonstrable rubbish. ASF IS SELLING RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY ALREADY ON WAVE BREAK ISLAND: FALSE No one has ever said this. But no doubt if the Govt gives the go ahead post election and they had them on plan by now - they would! SURFERS WILL LOSE ACCESS TO THE SEAWAY TO SURF SOUTH STRADBROKE: FALSE Again the minute a ship tries to enter/ leave, the Seaway is closed. Asserting otherwise is just false. THE DEVELOPMENT WOULD CHANGE THE SURF NEGATIVELY: FALSE The only evidence contrary is an unreleased report believed to be on limited parameters by Prof Short. Every expert from fields as diverse as hydrology, marine biology, surfing etc etc say the surf will be adversely affected. It is undeniable that with 6 mill m3 dredging, water quality will also be adversely impacted. THE COMMUNITY WILL PAY FOR THE DREDGING: FALSE Yes we will- in inheriting a dirty, damaged Broadwater which is more flood prone, has less marine and other wildlife & in the loss of recreational access and enjoyment... and if the dredge entity goes bust (or home) who pays to maintain the ship access??? That would be us. THE PROJECT WILL REQUIRE DREDGING TO ACHIEVE A CONTINUAL SAND DEPTH OF 20 METRES: FALSE No one has ever said this. Again ASF are adept at devising qus to attach the word false to. Try 12 - 14m with 6 MILLION M3 to be dredged and then maintenance dredging. Note this is twice the amount to dredged at Abbott Point. ASF CONSORTIUM’S PROPOSAL WILL COST THE RATEPAYER: FALSE ASF confine their infrastructure spend to project-related works - road blockages half a km away or issues with services, waste issues etc will not fall within that category, nor will upgrades required for up to 175000 cruise daytrippers... & what about damage to the Broadwater, consequential effects throughout the ecosystem and the loss of amenity? Not every cost has a swing ticket - tho ASF cant see that. THE PROJECT WILL BE AN ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL DISASTER: FALSE We beg to differ - based upon evidence from wildlife experts, marine biologists and scientists - as well as psych evidence as to the human value attached to amenity...
