ASHANTI - Also known as AKAN - West Afrikan / Modern day Ghana - The Gold Coast/Ivory coast - Migration due to colonization -Agrarian society -Matriarchal society -Niger Congo language [TWI] - Royal family hierarchy _____________ COSMOLOGY _____________ The Ashanti believed in the spirits of nature and their significance, the human body to Universe connection and at the Nucleus was one Supreme Being. -------------------------------------------------------- Various names: Oboadee [creator] Nyame [God] Ananda Kokuroko (The Great Spider ; the great designer) -------------------------------------------------------- The AKAN also believed that during earth years you were afforded a piece of Nyame [God] in you. Nyame created death but overcame it to have eternal life (sound familiar?). They believe at the time of human death the soul is reincarnated and a new born baby is a reincarnated soul. They also believe in safeguarding the environment of the Universe that being: the living, the deceased and the yet to be incarnated. The AKAN use cultural symbols to portray their beliefs about God.
