ASHRAE- ASU Student Chapter Hi there, my name is George Ioannidis and I am the new President of the ASHRAE Student Chapter at Arizona State University. I would like to invite you all to join us Thursday September 19th in (GWC) Goldwater Center for Science and Engineering. Each meeting we will be having guest presenters from the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditiong (HVAC) & Energy fields talking about emerging sustainable technologies. This is a great opportunity to learn about new and upcoming technology and, of course, network with professors, students, and the speaker. The presenter at our first meeting next week will be Rob Sty. Robert Sty, PE, LEED AP, SCPM is the Principal and Lead of the SmithGroupJJR Phoenix Technologies Studio which focuses on A/E facility designs for Mission Critical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Aerospace, and Renewable Energies industries and has practiced for over 17 years in a wide variety of building types. Having graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois-Chicago he is continuing education through Stanford University’s Management Science and Engineering graduate program for professionals. Robert is a Past President of the Central AZ Chapter of ASHRAE, a provisional corresponding member of ASHRAE TC 9.9, and in 2009 served on the City of Chandler’s green building task force which established the City’s incentive program for sustainable design. In 2009 he was awarded with the Consulting Specifying Engineering Magazine’s “Forty Under 40” award for his contributions to the A/E/C industry. The presentation topic will be HVAC basics for Data Centers: A look at what it takes from an HVAC perspective to keep data centers operational given stringent uptime requirements and energy efficiency goals. A brief overview of data center airflow, temperature requirements, and systems will be examined. In addition, Scott Sellin will be joining us for this meeting as well. Scott is the Central Arizona ASHRAE Chapter Student Advisor to the ASU ASHRAE Student Chapter. Scott graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from ASU in 2008 and was also a former president of the ASHRAE student chapter, so he is a great asset to have to ask any and all questions about the ASHRAE organization. Currently, Scott works for the M + W Group, which is a global company that specializes in clean-room facilities such as semi-conductor production plants and bio-pharmaceutical production plants. Please visit us on Face book at facebook/ASHRAEASUStudentChapter and also register on https://orgsync/login/arizona-state-university and look us up under American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers at ASU. There you will find all the forms needed to fill out and become a student member of ASHRAE. I hope we have a good showing....and as always there will be pizza and soda... Please invite other students here at ASU to this meeting that you think might be interested in joining the ASHRAE Student Chapter at Arizona State University. Hope to see you there, George Ioannidis
