ASK FOR WISDOM JAMES 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. God wants us to desire His wisdom for our everyday lives and not for the tough times only or when we dont have answers. WISDOM is the “ability to judge correctly and follow the best course of action, based on knowledge and understanding.” KNOWLEDGE is the accumulation of facts. All that you learn in school, in the Bible and through other experiences in life is knowledge. While understanding, is a critical aspect relating directly to knowledge and wisdom. UNDERSTANDING is a step beyond knowledge. It is the ability to evaluate the knowledge. This requires seeing the big picture, to see how the knowledge fits. To understand knowledge is to see the meaning or significance of the knowledge. Those with knowledge are able to collect, remember, and access information. Those with understanding are able to abstract, or get out the meaning out of information. Those with wisdom know which principle to apply now. Wisdom is when one is able to remember what they learned informally or formally and through life experience with right understanding, then use that to make current decision. One may have a lot of knowledge which s/he misunderstands. Another one may have knowledge, have understanding of the same knowledge but when it comes to making decision is their own life they make choices which are contrary to the knowledge they have. For instance, I went to hospital someday, I heard a doctor advising a patient to stop smoking because it was harmful for his health. A few minutes later I saw the same doctor smoking. I was astonished. That is when I realized, one can go to school, universities get knowledge, have very clear understanding of the same but be unable to apply into your life. I repeat, WISDOM is the “ability to judge correctly and follow the best course of action, based on knowledge and understanding.” You can study all the books, do researches, live long and acquire grey hair but still lack wisdom. The only source of wisdom is God! I am sure on a daily basis you witness people regretting the choices they made sometime in their lives. Some would say, “I wish I never married you!” “I regret having met you in the first place.” I regret why I made this choice. Regrets, regrets, regrets! Lack of wisdom is expressed in regrets. On the other hand, timely opportunities or rather “golden chance” would avail but due to lack of wisdom one will never bother. After losing the opportunity that is when you will hear them say, “I wish I knew”. I wish I knew comes later. Show me someone who says, “I regret doing this” or “I wish I knew” and I will show you a person who needs to ask God for wisdom. The one and only source of wisdom is God. No one can give you wisdom and wisdom is never learned in a class. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.” Psalms 111:10 “The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none who does good.” Psalms 4:1 We need wisdom in order to stop goofing around. Goofing is to blunder, make an error, misjudgments, especially due to carelessness. Doing something that you regret later and making decision that are costly have only one prescription, wisdom! Turn to God today, before you make that decision or turn that offer down and ask Him for wisdom. God does not discriminate, however in order to receive wisdom we cannot be double minded. Even though we know that we must ask, there is also something else God expects of us. He expects us to have faith and believe Him. To obtain wisdom you must ask and have faith to believe that God will give you wisdom. My brother, my sister take time with God today and ASK FOR WISDOM Friend, thank you very much, for taking time to interact through this group. Thank you for your prayer, encouragement, word of advice and inviting your friends to the group. May the Lord God abundantly reward you. I wish you a great weekend. God bless you!
