ASSAULT: My story, by Ekiti commissioner on march 19, 2014 at 2:00 am in news You might also like BY GBENGA ARIYIBI ADO-EKITI— Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Kayode Olaosebikan, yesterday, denied ever assaulting a National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, member at Otun Ekiti in Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State, weekend. Olaosebikan was said to have had a face-off with the NYSC member, Mr. Thompson Enobong, during the continuous voters’ registration exercise of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, at his Otun-Ekiti country home last Saturday. The commissioner was subsequently invited by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Felix Uyanna, for questioning. Speaking in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, Olaosebikan accused some media establishments and social media of blowing the matter out of proportion, saying he only had a minor disagreement with the NYSC member. Olaosebikan, however, cautioned the leadership of NYSC against allowing itself to be used by some dubious politicians in the state in preparation for the June 21 governorship election. He said: “It was true that the youth corps member was shouting at the top of his voice that a lady, who is the younger sister to my orderly, should not register on that day at the registration centre. “The noise was so embarrassing that I had to go near him and asked him not to be hostile with the people. “As we were talking, the boy, who never knew I was a commissioner, just pushed me and my people wanted to mob him. I was able to dissuade them. I was even the one that took him into a waiting car that drove him to where he was supposed to work. “It was during the fracas that I knew he was not supposed to work in that ward. “Later the thing started trending on social media that I was responsible for his beating and that he was hospitalised when nothing of such happened.” He said he owe it a duty to ensure the safety of every NYSC member in Ekiti State as the Chairman of the Board of NYSC in the state and as the Commissioner for Youth and Sports.
