ASUP Strike Update 24th June, 2013: Poly students lock down Ikorodu road in protest!!! The Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, ASUP were supposed to meet today, Monday, 2014th June, 2013 to determine the Nigeria Polytechnic Strike that has been ongoing for the past few months, but it seems they are still slacking and some Polytechnic Students who are waiting for them to conclude their meeting and perhaps call of the strike have taken it upon themselves to fight for their Right? That is what Students of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State are currently doing! According to Punch Newspaper, Poly students lock down Ikorodu road in protest and there is heavy traffic on the Ikorodu expressway, Lagos as students of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State are protesting the long strike caused by disagreement between the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, (ASUP). The students said although their school is located in Ogun State, they decided to protest on Ikorodu Road, Lagos because the road is owned by the Federal Government. More than 200 students are protesting and also calling on students in other higher institutions in Lagos to join their cause… As at the time of publishing this report, we do not hold if the meeting between the FG and ASUP still hold today, as there is no news on ASUP website. We will let you know the outcome of the ASUP meeting (assuming it took place). Meanwhile, we pray that the Federal Government will not send the Happy Trigger Shooting Nigeria Policemen to cause more mayhem. Because we know there is going to be casualty if Nigeria Police are send to calm the strike. Perhaps they should be given Arms without bullets. We pray for the safety of those students and at the same time advice them to return Home.
