AT BIRTAMOD Language Policy promotes one official language at the expense of another language.Language Policy not only protect but also promote the regional and ethnic language whose viability is threatned. Language Policy refers to what a government does either through official legislation,court decision or policy to determine how languages are used.Language Policy cultivates language skills to meet national priorities.In other words,Language Policy establishes the rights of individuals or groups to use and maintain the language. The major concern of the present people is to preserve their cultural diversity and linguistic diversity in the society.The rumour such as the fear of disappearance of about 3,000 languages in the world has panicked all.Some considerable factors that affect the existance and use of human language are: number of native language speakers,use in formal communication,geographical dispersion and socio-economic weight of its speakers etc. Assimilation Policy fosters national unity inside the country.It accelerates the downsizing of one or more linguistic minority groups.The state may ban on the use of the language or it may exclude the language group or it may devalorize the language group or it may repress the language by force or by causing genocide.
