AT THE GLAD: Ma Polaine’s Great Decline play a highly potent mix of rhythm and blues and country soul with flavours of gypsy jazz, vaudeville and music hall, all performed with a focused intensity. Taking inspiration from the 1940′s jazz of Billie Holiday, the delta blues of Howlin’ Wolf and the genre sidestepping of Tom Waits, their music moves from foot tapping abandon to subtle intensity. Beth Packer’s superbly soulful voice, mean blues harp and Clinton Hough’s virtuoso guitar are supported by a superbly tight rhythm section, intertwining horns, piano and accordion to produce a truly exciting roots sound. https://youtube/watch?v=o1ImcrzNyNI Ma Polaines Great Decline onstage at 9.15 pm Karen Grace has recently released her debut EP Deep Down Things, produced by Iain Archer (Snow Patrol, Jake Bugg) and Dave Lynch (Ed Harcourt), with contribution from Elbows Jote Osahn. Her beautiful contemporary alt-folk sound calls to mind the sophisticated stylings of Laura Marling and the Moullettes, and subtly brings out her classically trained background. She plays this evening with her full band. youtube/watch?v=-orq5VATU10 Karen Grace onstage at 8.15 pm Benedict Benjamin is the singer and songwriter with acclaimed UK indie-folk act Mariners Children (Simply astonishing…exhilarating and devastating. Q Magazine), and is a member of renowned Brighton band Peggy Sue. His brittle, heartworn and beutifully delicate compositons are sung with a wonderfully pure vocal style to match. He treads a similarly introspective path to James Vincent McMorrow and Bon Iver, with respectful nods to rootsy Americana along the way. Benedict Benjamin onstage at 7.30 pm Our Sundays are becoming increasingly busy, so were now offering the chance to book a seat- booking times available are 7.00 pm til the performances begin at 7.30 pm, well happily hold a seat in your name between these times (we cant hold you a full table unless the numbers correspond, as all seats must be filled).
