ATCMA Transitional Board Update # 7 - TopicsExpress

ATCMA Transitional Board Update # 7 September 12, 2013 On Saturday, August 24, The Canadian Coalition of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association (CCTAA) that represents the five TCM regulated provinces of BC, Alberta, Quebec, Ontario, and Newfoundland, met with federal Minister of State (Seniors), Dr. Alice Wong and Finance Minister of State, Kevin Sorenson, in Vancouver. BC has two representatives on the prestigious CCTAA: Dr. John Lee and Dr. Michael Chung, both members of the ATCMA Transitional Board. Transitional Board Chair, Dr. William Hardman made most of the physical arrangements for the meeting held at the downtown Holiday Inn on West Broadway. By all accounts, the meeting, in which the CCTAA petitioned the Federal Government to grant Traditional Chinese Medicine, including Acupuncture, full Canada wide HST/GST exempted Health Care Status, was an obvious success. As Dr. Chung concludes, even though no specific timelines have been set, four federal Ministers have now been made fully aware of the need and urgency of this legitimate and reasonable request. Dr. Chung is optimistic that’… like the dawn, light is not too far.” This initiative, which would see an amendment in the federal Excise Tax Act, is supported by ATCMA- like Associations in the following Canadian provinces and regions: Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan, and the Maritimes. Update was written by Joseph Ranallo, BA (Hons), MA, Rac. Translated by Dr. David Song. See next page the impressive and compelling letter that the CCTAA presented to the Ministers at the August 24 meeting. Dr. John Lee has kindly submitted it to us to keep our membership fully informed on the cutting edge work this national Association is doing for all of us. Because of the CCTAA’s dedication, we may soon enjoy the respect and esteem we truly deserve.
