ATHAN’s Adventures: Greece >> Halkidiki >> Mount Athos >> The Monastery of Simonos Petras, one of the 20 Monasteries, originally built in the 14th Century… Athan got to visit this most beautiful and Holy place. It is a very large honor to be allowed to stay at a monastery – and Athan stayed for a week, he worked, prayed and ate with some of the 70 plus monks who inhabit The Monastery of Gregoriu, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, also founded in the 14th century. Had a chance to talk with Athan, and the stories he told me, make me believe this was a “life changing” experience. The icons, the church he described were nothing short of angelic.
