ATTENTION: Algonquins of Temiscaming, Kipawa, Maniwaki, Mattawa, and North Bay. Please read and provide your thoughts, and then share this post. Our ancestors knew there would come a day, when standing and fighting together would be crucial to our survival. Today is that day. It is for this very reason that they made contracts which cannot be broken; they last forever and ever. “As long as the sun shines, as long as the river flows, and as long as the grass grows…” There was never more of a need for them to make and enter into these contracts, than when they foresaw that there will come a time when “The “white man” shall be like the grass that covers vast prairies. My people are few. They resemble the scattering trees of a storm-swept plain.” This was during the 1850’s. And it was at this time, that the northern family bands of the Nipissing and Algonquins, those within the Upper Ottawa River and Lake Temiscaming area, began forming a lot of ties joining themselves together through marriages, creating a link that only gets stronger with each generation. For several years, I have tried to urge the members of our communities to join forces; and revive the alliances formed by our ancestors. To not do so, would bring dishonor to them, and undermine their wisdom. It is time for all of us to put aside our differences, and stand together against common adversaries; those who have taken advantage of our forefathers offer to share the land, those who have no regard for the preservation of life, and those who continue to ignore, deny, and violate our rights and beliefs. We must take control over our own destiny, and do what is required to protect our people for many, many generations to come. I know some people will be fearful, but they can find comfort in knowing they are making the right choice. We must return to our traditional way of life, and become the spiritual people we were. Independence is the only way to proceed. I am prepared to offer my full support and dedication to pursuing this option. no real substantial monetary costs in going to court. together, and with the help of others, we have the ability to do this on our own. also, your inside knowledge would also be really beneficial to show corruption and unfairness, providing support the reason to start our own action.
