ATTENTION GOLFERS!!! The Falls at Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort will open to the public next year. While the course may look ready for play, “The Falls golf course will open next spring when all eighteen holes meet our expectations, which we hope exceed the expectations of our guests,” says General Manager, Sharon Haselhoff. “This year’s harsh winter, with little snow cover after February, allowed frost levels to permeate the soil significantly deeper than normal. Following that, we experienced a very cool and windy spring, which didn’t allow the soil to warm to germination level temperatures until late May. Then, as you all know, June brought record setting rainfall amounts, causing more setbacks,” says Jason Wagamon, Director of Golf. However, when The Falls opens next year, it will no doubt exceed expectations. The Falls at Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort is a Par 72 Championship course designed by Rees Jones. The legendary designer has crafted championship golf courses all over the world. Now, Jones adds this breathtaking eighteen hole golf course to his list of more than 100 courses. His courses have hosted fifteen major championships, five Ryder Cups, two Walker Cups and one President’s Cup. To help provide the best playing surfaces, The Falls was seeded with bent grass tees, fairways, and greens which will be unique to the area. Spanning over 7,100 yards, The Falls, offers panoramic views of the pastoral countryside and includes a thirty foot waterfall that flows into a twelve acre lake, and a bridge made of original cobblestones that were on the streets of Sioux Falls. It all comes together to create an unforgettable golfing experience. The Rees Jones course is designed with golfers of all abilities in mind; five sets of tees can play anywhere from 5,205 yards all the way back to 7,110 yards. A full service golf shop will open next year to make the golfing experience at The Falls complete. “Simply stated, there is nothing else like it in the tri-state region,” says Haselhoff. While the course won’t open to the public until next year, Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort will be inviting a few guests to get a sneak peak late this summer and play the back nine.
