ATTENTION LAURIER APPLICANTS: Important changes to the Concurrent Education program For the past 12 years Wilfrid Laurier University has been in partnership with Nipissing University to deliver the Concurrent Education program at the Brantford campus. We received notice on December 15 from Nipissing University, that they have had to re-evaluate their program offerings and will no longer be able to continue this partnership after the September 2014 students graduate. In light of these changes, we will not be admitting new students to this joint program for September 2015 in its current form. For those students who have applied to Laurier for the Concurrent Education program, before the application was closed on the OUAC website, we are sending out specific communications to each of them about the cancellation and suggestions for their possible next steps. These communications are as follows: For those who applied to a second program at Laurier, they are automatically being considered for admission to that program. If they do not meet the admission requirements for their second choice program, their application is placed on hold until we receive addition grade 12 grades from the OUAC. For those who only applied to Concurrent Education, they are being considered for our Youth & Childrens Studies program as a alternate offer. If they meet the admission requirements for that program, they will be receiving an offer of admission in the mail shortly. Conversely, if they currently do not meet the admission requirements for the Youth & Childrens Studies program, their file is being placed on hold until we receive more of their grade 12 grades from the OUAC. We are also encouraging all students to apply to similar programs which will lead to a concurrent or consecutive degree. Here are some resources to assist you and your students when looking for other suitable concurrent and consecutive education programs: Electronic Info: electronicinfo.ca Schools that will be offering Concurrent Education for September 2015: Brock University (St. Catharines, ON) Lakehead University (Thunder Bay, ON) Laurentian University (Sudbury, ON) Nipissing University (North Bay, ON) Queens University (Kingston, ON) York University (Toronto, ON) We also have a variety of exceptional and well-respected programs at our Waterloo and Brantford campus that our students value, and a progressive consecutive education program that offers more practical teaching experience in the classroom than any other education program. They can apply to our two-year consecutive Bachelor of Education program after they have completed a four-year undergraduate degree at Laurier, or another post-secondary institution. Questions? What if my students have already applied to Laurier for Concurrent Education? Will you automatically consider them for another program at Laurier? If they wish to be considered for another program at Laurier, for example our BA in Youth & Childrens Studies, they can log in to their application on the OUAC website and change their program selection. They can also call us to discuss their options. One of our recruiters would be happy to discuss our programs with them. I had some students who were really interested in your program and were planning to apply over the holidays. Now what should they do? We have removed the program from the OUAC application form, as we cannot accept applications to our Concurrent Education program. We would like to encourage them to apply to programs to which they were interested before the deadline, whether they are at Laurier or another institution. We wish them the best of luck with their decision and in their future studies. If you or any of your students have additional questions, please dont hesitate to connect with us at [email protected] or 519.756.8228 x5777. Please note: the university is closed from December 24, 2014 until January 5,2015 for the holiday break. Any inquiries during this time will be answered when we return.
