ATTENTION NYC ROADIES: One of you, riding with a large group, - TopicsExpress

ATTENTION NYC ROADIES: One of you, riding with a large group, collided with my Dad on the West Side Bike Path, in the neighborhood of 125th St., around 10 a.m. on Saturday. You knocked him over, causing a minor injury. You then proceeded to yell at him for being in your way. Let me tell you: The bike path is NOT the place for you do get your Fredly jollies off. Tossing an, ahem, *experienced* cyclist to the ground while on your way to get a muffin at the Runcible Spoon makes you look like an asshole -- actually, it MAKES YOU AN ASSHOLE -- and, possibly worse, it makes all cyclists in the city look just as bad. The bike path, like Central and Prospect parks, is a place where lots of cyclists, walkers, runners, and kids mix. As such, you should be riding in control at all times, and should always remember that it is YOUR JOB TO AVOID SLOWER TRAFFIC ahead of you. If you dont have time to react to traffic in front of you, then you are going too fast. It doesnt matter what my Dad, or other slower traffic might have done, you have to avoid HIM, thats how it works. If youre in doubt, I suggest you to consult NYS vehicle and traffic code. Listen: A woman died in NYC this month after being hit by a cyclist who was riding too fast in a place with mixed traffic. Cycling in NYC is at a VERY delicate position right now, and people like you are making it worse. A lot worse. Here in the Lehigh Valley we have a rule for cycling, which I suggest you follow: Dont be a dick. And finally, not that you seem to care, but my Dad is fine. Only minor damage to his bike. He was lucky this time, and so were you.
