!!!ATTENTION TEACHERS !!! This is a letter from WCT President Pasquale Delli Carpini. It contains a VERY DANGEROUS MISSTATEMENT: In the absence of tenure we could be fired for any reason: students achievment on state test, APPR scores..... wcteachers.org/ This statement implies that tenure will protect teachers in the face of APPR consequences: THE VERY OPPOITE IS TRUE. Teachers can be fired IN SPITE OF THEIR TENURE. I dont know why the unions are continually adancing this misstatement but it is very dangerous to teachers and obvioulsy to our children. If teachers continue to make tenure a priority ahead of Common Core they are leaving themselves very vulnerable. This is a link to the APPR regulation. It says plainly at the bottom of p2 thru the top of p3 that APPR trumps tenure. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS VERY IMPORTANT CONCEPT. IT IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND COMMON CORE. It is an opportunity to brand teachers as ineffective in order to allow governmental and financial interests to come in and have extrementy negative impact on our education system.
