ATTITUDE 101 The joy of being knowledgeable is the ability to apply. And that makes you a wise person. Therefore, I hope we all are working on our attitude and bit-by-bit becoming a better you. This week we shall be examining our attitude towards shopping. Let me start with this short story. Mrs Okon is always acusing her husband of not been truthful about his earnings. So; last month-25th of October precisely, her husband handed the whole salary to her, having removed his tithe. The woman finished everything yesterday, all on weekend shopping-same money the husband will manage for a whole month. I just save the rest. Quite a lot of couple would have been so rich by now; but they have all their investment right in the stomach. In short theyve built estate in their belly and the only thing to show for 10-20years plus on that job is two cars and good skin. Why? Tell yourself today my shopping attitude must change Anytime you want to go for shopping, always have a list and the list must be created on the order of importance. When making your list, you might as well want to ask yourself this questions: 1. Do we need it? 2. Can we manage the one we already have 3. Can we afford it and 4. Can we do without it. Always buy what you need and not what you want. You may want a private jet but according to your status and capacity now, what you actually need could be a car or a SUV. When you get to the market or the mall, go first to the section of your needs. If you do it that way, it will be difficult for you to buy unnecessary stuffs. Some women get to the market and start from ice cream, biscuit, chewing gum...then when its time to buy important items the money wont be enough. Always enquire from friends, when it comes to buying quality things and go to at least two or more shops before paying for the best because that will save you the cost of buying four school bag in a term. Then buy quality things. Sometimes we think quality stuffs must be expensive! Not all the time, find out where they sell things in bulk or wholesales price. For instance if a carton of fish is #8,000; get three more persons and share it. You will get more. Unless you are using it as a business strategy, you should not buy cars, phones or electronics that are too expensive. They are not assets but they are liability. Ask some people that were recently downsize where those expensive phones are...its been sold... A number of people said they always want to shop because they are depressed, is shopping antideppressant?. No; an attitude is formed, you were not born that way and as a matter of fact you keep shopping because you really dont have a plan for that money. Hence, for every income you both or personally earn as husband and wife, plan and have a budget for it. When you do, it will be very difficult for you to buy or spend on what you dont need. If you can just apply wisdom in your shopping attitude, you will have more money to save and invest for your future. Till next week, have a lovely Sunday!
