ATTN French Quarter, Marigny, Warehouse & CBD residents and business owners: ProjectNOLA and NOPD 8th District detectives are developing a plan to reduce crime by dramatically increasing police efficiency in your area. With your consent and assistance, ProjectNOLA wishes to begin streaming live HD video from it’s non-profit crime camera system into a secure area of the 8th District Police Station. Citizens vested by the NOPD and trained by ProjectNOLA may, from the safety of the police station, live-monitor crime cameras on participating homes and businesses. These volunteers will dramatically increase police efficiency by relaying real-time information concerning suspicious activity and breaking crimes to officers on the street, which will help deter crime while aiding in the arrest of those who commit major crimes. Via a secure terminal, 8th District detectives may also have instant access to previously recorded video footage of criminal incidents. Those in the 8th District not wishing for the NOPD to have direct access to their camera feeds may request that ProjectNOLA record their camera’s video to a server that is not directly accessible by the NOPD.
