ATTN NHIA: Id like to do a convenient installation in the Nhiart - TopicsExpress

ATTN NHIA: Id like to do a convenient installation in the Nhiart Vault. The idea being this: I bring all the clothes I dont like or wear or which dont fit or which are unusable and thus scrapable. The result of which is a pile of things which I once felt comfortable in or with or no longer like so its a strange sort of self-portrait if you will. Ill invite you all to come in poke around, take what you want, and drop your own things off in the process. The cumulative result being an anonymous group-portrait of the NHIA community. This will effectively comment on consumerism in American youth, personal identity and change, and the often over-looked transitive quality of sentimental objects (even the idea of clothes holding sentimental value - a concept which is NOT strictly western). Id really like to do this for all of the above reasons, but also because its Spring, Im cleaning, I have too many clothes, I dont want them to sit around or waste, itd be a neat way for everyone to get a new wardrobe, and Id be more willing to part with certain articles of clothing knowing that theyd be going to somebody in my own community (thats my ego talking I suppose), I dont know why, but if theres like a flannel Ive loved for a long time but never wear, I wont get rid of it because I dont want a stranger to have it. Id rather it collect dust. This is admittedly counter-productive, and wasteful, and selfish, and egotistical, but true nonetheless, so in a way, this installation will be about that darker side of the wardrobe as well. Let me know if youre interested, if you like this idea, or how I can actually, in the upcoming weeks, make this a real event as opposed to just an idea Ive been musing to myself about since December.
