ATTN: Please pass this along to your friends & pay it forward. These guys have been in a serious accident and are still in FREE-FALL. Lets give them an EMERGENCY PARACHUTE... FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Skydiving Pioneer, US National Champion & Army Special Operations Veteran Jim Slaton Nearly Killed While Riding Motorcycle with Wife SUMMARY: GiveForward has setup fundraising campaign for Jim Slaton who has survived more than 10,000 parachute jumps and more than 8 years of service in the Army Special Operations to be nearly killed with his wife by uninsured driver in Texas. HOUSTON, TEXAS: Skydiving Pioneer and US Special Operations Veteran Jim Slaton who was an Army Ranger & US National Champion of Parachuting was nearly killed while riding a motorcycle with his wife in downtown Houston in July. A young uninsured motorist failed to give right of way and made a sudden last minute turn in front of them. The car gave them no time to slow down or avoid the impact. Jim and Brandi flipped over the front of the car and cartwheeled down the street onto the concrete. They were both wearing safety helmets but still received many injuries. Jim broke both feet which required surgery to place a metal titanium plate on the top of his left foot while Brandi broke her left femur and knee which required surgery to insert a metal titanium rod inside her femur bone. Friends and family in the military and skydiving community have always rallied around each other in times of need. Whether it’s been for a neighbor fighting cancer or a family who lost their house in a fire, those in the community have long held fundraising events like dinners and silent auctions to help their neighbors through difficult times. Now, through a growing trend called crowd funding, they are taking these efforts online. Friends of Jim and Brandi Slaton have set up a crowd funding page on GiveForward to help with medical and living expenses since they are unable to work due to their injuries. So if a motorist is uninsured and they do not have the cash on hand to pay any court ordered amount to the victims of an accident then the injured have little recourse. Basically, victims get a piece a paper to hang on their wall saying their are owed money by the victim. Jim & Brandi now have hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills and no way to pay them. They are both out of work and are not able to take care of each other. Brandi’s hospital bills alone cost over $100,000. The couple could file bankruptcy but that will not help them get the medical attention they need now or help them during their long rehabilitation process and they still have living expenses. Fundraiser creator Robert Cowan says... “Jim Slaton could be considered one of the founding fathers of high performance parachuting worldwide. His contributions to the sport of high performance parachute 9light and specialized training is priceless. Its hard to put a number on the amount of lives that have likely been saved by Jims contributions to the sport of parachuting. Jim and Brandi are family. Family that were involved in a tragic accident where they were hit by someone with no insurance while riding their motorcycle. Let’s help them so they can focus on healing.
