AUCTION ENDING TONIGHT SATURDAY 8/30: Ty Cobb cards from the classic black and white caramel sets of the 1920s are a rare find in any condition, but examples like the offered 1921 E121 American Caramel that are both centered and crease-free are particularly coveted among pre-war collectors. Although mildly soiled and showing VG/EX corners and a faded E121 fountain pen notation on back, the offered crease-free example features perfectly equidistant borders around an image boasting strong contrast and clarity. Then theres the fact that its the scarcer of two different versions produced in which Manager is spelled out on front, as opposed to the more common Mgr. version. Well probably never know which version came first and why the subtle change was made after production had already started, but population data on record at PSA shows far fewer total Manager versions at 12 total, compared to the 27 registered copies of the Mgr. version. With the best of those scant 12 on record rating in the EX-MT 6 category, this sweet PSA 4 VG-EX (MK) Caramel Cobb is among the top few highest graded in existence.
