AUDITIONS FOR LITTLE WOMEN AUGUST 5 & 6 Matthew Bruffee is directing the classic play “Little Women” this fall at The Burt Wood School of Performing Arts. Auditions are August 5th and 6th from 4-7 p.m. at The Alley Theatre. “Little Women” will run for 10 performances beginning Friday, November 21st through Sunday, December 7th at The Alley Theatre. Call 508-946-1071 for more information. Little Women is a novel by American author Louisa May Alcott (1832–1888), which was originally published in two volumes in 1868 and 1869. Alcott wrote the books rapidly over several months at the request of her publisher. The novel follows the lives of four sisters—Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March—detailing their passage from childhood to womanhood, and is loosely based on the author and her three sisters. Little Women has been read as a romance or as a quest, or both. It has been read as a family drama that validates virtue over wealth, but also as a means of escaping that life by women who knew its gender constraints only too well. Actors are encouraged to bring a headshot and resume to the audition. The production fee may be raised through fund-raising and ad book sales.
