AUGUST 19, 2013 CONSEQUENCES OF DISCOURAGEMENT 1 Kings 19: Elijah got so discouraged he asked God to let him die. 1. Divided attention If we are discouraged we may not be able to work wholeheartedly. If you are discouraged with your spiritual journey most likely your service will be affected. If you are discouraged with your marriage, you might not do your best to work for it. 2. Blaming Others David’s men accused him of the Amalekite attack. When we are discouraged we tend to blame other people or even our situation. Again it is a choice we can make to overcome it and not pass it on. Example: someone once told me that he is wants to leave the community because he is discouraged about the people and the leaders. I believe that this should not be a reason to live because he has a choice. Sometimes discouragement can be caused by our own wrong-doing and perspective in life. 3. Anger and Depression How many people today resolve to medication to feel better? What we need to do is get to the very root of discouragement, unless we do this we will never overcome negative feelings. 4. Estrangement When we are always discourage our tendency is to complain and grumble and this attitude might push away people. 5. Loss of confidence You become unsure of yourself and every aspect of life will suffer. 6. Negative Spirit Complaining leads to discouragement. Proverbs 15:4 The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit. Do not talk over again and again things or rehash, we will only make it seem worse than they are. 7. Unwise decision We are so discouraged when we made a wrong decision and we failed to accomplish our plans. Be happy and stay happy.
