AUNTIE JOs LEGACY: My dear aunt (on my mothers side) passed away a few days ago. She had a tremendous impact on my life during a particularly vulnerable time in my life. BACKGROUND: Most of my formative years were spent in Alberta, Canada. Had a great childhood growing up in a small town (Three Hills) of approximately 2,000 people at the time. I left home at 17, with $24 in my pocket and started hitchhiking with Bob Kirk (my friend)...heading toward Vancouver, Seattle, California...and TROUBLE. Bob and I got split up on Portland, OR and I traveled down to Lodi, CA by myself after doing a brief stint in the Portland Juvenile Hall for a few weeks (for vagrancy). Its a much longer, and more colorful story, but I am trying to be brief. Once I arrived in Lodi I connected with my relatives. By the way, anyone in the area with any of these last names is probably a relative of some sort: Wiebe, Schroeder, Lippert, Theissen, and Ehlers (the entire Ehlers family also had a significant impact on my life at that time). Uncle Harry and Auntie Jo allowed me to stay at their home. They -- and their whole family -- were very kind and generous toward me during a time when I was an accident looking for a place to happen. I look back on that time with fond memories. Auntie Jo is a significant contributor to who I am today. I honor her name and legacy.
