AUSTRALIA BUSINESS ANALYSTS IT PROJECTS MANAGER LIFE INSURANCE CLAIMS ASSESSORS AND SALES REPRESENTATIVES ARE JUST OF FOUR OF THE KEY SKILLS IN DEMAND FOR 2014 JOBS MARKET IN THE COUNTRY Business analysts, IT project managers, life insurance claims assessors and sales representatives are just four of the key skills in demand in Australia’s 2014’s jobs market, according to recruiters. The latest Hays Quarterly Hotspots list of skills in demand reveals that there are still pockets of skills shortages, most notably in accountancy, insurance, sales and IT. In demand areas include banking and finance lawyers, manufacturing operation managers and mining engineers ‘Job opportunities are available for skilled and experienced professionals. While the unemployment rate remains relatively flat at the moment, with expectations that it may edge up slightly by the middle of the year, skilled professionals in many key areas will still be needed,’ said Nick Deligiannis, managing director of Hays in Australia and New Zealand. ‘Employers in several non-mining sectors are growing, but they are facing a shortage of specific high skilled talent. Those people with high level skills are already looking to change jobs to improve their prospects and career development,’ he added. The report highlights that employers are increasingly looking for analysts with strong stakeholder engagement skills to drive process improvements and cost savings. They often want analysts with strong operational experience who can build relationships with non-finance staff. There is a shortage of candidates with large payroll system experience, a shortage of management accountants and architects. In the finance sector there has been an increase in demand for mortgage administrators due to banking changes and a booming property market has created opportunities for residential estimators. The education sector is another jobs hotspot with high demand for qualified early childhood teachers and secondary teachers of math, science, English and design and technology. Senior design engineers who have strong business development skills are sought after and there is a constant lack of suitably qualified and experienced candidates in both the private and public sectors. In the health sector, there is a shortage in nursing homes and also for specialist renal dialysis nurses as well as a continued demand for mental health professionals, including support facilitators, mental health clinicians and intake officers. Vacancies are available on both a permanent and temporary basis. The report also says there is high demand for project managers with business intelligence and data warehousing experience in response to a boom in analytics based projects due to the ongoing buzz around ‘big data.’ Companies increasingly looking to use data to gain a competitive advantage and as a result there has been an ongoing requirement for BI Analysts and BI Reports Developers (Cognos, SQL Server and SAP.) Other in demand areas include banking and finance lawyers, property lawyers, legal executive assistants, medical sales representatives, manufacturing operation managers, state government policy officers, procurement analysts, mining engineers, retail planners, marketing managers, truck drivers and skilled labourers.
