AUSTRALIA IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT HAS ANNOUNCED NEW RESOURCES FOR FOREIGN WORKERS TO ENABLE THEM TO KNOW THEIR LEGAL RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES AND BEFORE ARRIVING IN AUSTRALIA YOU SHOULD HAVE BE AWARE IT 24TH JANUARY 2014 If you employ, or are thinking about employing, foreign workers, the Department of Immigration and Border Protection has new resources to inform you of your legal responsibilities. New information According to the Department, Australian businesses are ‘expected to take reasonable steps, at reasonable times, to ensure they are not employing, referring or contracting illegal workers’. A guide for businesses, frequently asked questions, examples of contract clauses and a PowerPoint presentation are now available on the Department’s website. The Department has also produced an information video for businesses, which provides an overview of new laws regarding hiring legal non-citizens, and useful advice on how to avoid hiring or contracting illegal non-citizens.
