AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities. Established more than 30 years ago with one teacher in one classroom, AVID today impacts more than 700,000 students in 45 states and 16 other countries/territories. On Tuesday of this week (11/18), we had an AVID Parent Workshop. Our agenda for the workshop included and overview of AVID 9, AVID 10, binders, Cornell Notes, planners, tutorials, and a brief intro of PIQE. As our AVID students are our presenters, it is an amazing learning experience for all. This year we had a couple of Mr. Sakumas terrific AVID 9 students. Followed by our fabulous AVID 10 students from Mrs. Tomasetti and Mrs. Wagner. These students not only presented to their own parents, but many volunteered to present to the PIQE classes about AVID in general. This request came less than an hour before the presentation but no one would know. Our students stood up confidently and shared what AVID is and how it has helped them grow.
