AVOID FREE GIFTS; BE PRICELESS ‘He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live’. Proverbs 15:27 Gifts have a way of weakening one’s conscience and actions. Whoever you are indebted to, you are influence less on such a person. Many Police men can’t arrest some criminal because they have collected gifts from them. Those we collect gifts from buys over our allegiance. Gifts make us support the course of whomever we are receiving such gifts from whether we like it or not. The influence of a gift can weaken us. Ada started collecting money from Uche, a boy she detest most because he is not her type of guy. She kept collecting gifts from him for so long; calling him a fool that is wasting his money on what he can never have. One day Uche demanded she sleeps with him which she refused at first but latter oblige him, she finally married Uche and she is living her remaining part of life with a man she never really loved but that got her contracted for life by his many gifts. Uche won her over to what he wanted through his many gifts to her, and she even though not willingly married him because his gift weakened her ability to say no to his proposal. There is level of gift you will collect from someone that you will be so weakened that you will become such a person’s servant. And all your life would be spent for that person’s course while yours would be neglected because your price had being paid. Be priceless; whomever that you don’t receive gifts from, you are not subject too. To free yourself from the power of any, decease from collecting gifts from such person. Whoever that can’t pay your price can’t have you under control. Receive gift from only those that support your course, accepts your doctrine, has faith in your beliefs and treads the same path with you. ABRAHAM And Sarah was an hundred and seven and twenty years old: these were the years of the life of Sarah. And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her. And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying, I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight. And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him, Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead. And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth. And he communed with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and intreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar, That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace amongst you. And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying, Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead. And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land. And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there. And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him, My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead. And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant. And the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city. And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan. And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth. Gen. 23:1-20 When Abraham refused to collect the Land free of charge from Ephron, he made his ownership over the land sure and by that he also cancelled every possible future revolt by Ephron or his descendants. Abraham will still retain his Lordship over Ephron because he didn’t collect any free things from him. Thousands of churches are passing through hell because of some free land property they got from supposed donors. Many courts are filled with cases of children trying to repossess the land their father donated to the church free perse se. nothing is free in this world, if you don’t repay in cash you will pay in kind. Paul in his letter to the Romans said (Romans 13:8) ‘owe no one anything except to love one another…’ Retain your God given honor and respect by owing no one anything except to love such a one. Never take what you didn’t pay for. Never borrow and when you do, pay before the agreed time. Don’t pay people with “God bless you or thank you alone” when you can give them a material reward for their services, no matter how voluntary it may look, pay, don’t owe. Never be the one owing, rather be the owed. Power belongs to those we owed and not those owing us. Every man is subject to God because every man owes Him his life. To influence your world (sphere of influence) bless it with what it can’t pay you back, and your world would ever be subject to you. Bless your church, household, ministry, school etc. make them indebted to you and you’ll ever gain their loyalty and support. Stay blessed. Pastor Promise Ikpe Share the love.
