AWAKE AT MIDNIGHT/ PRAYING AT MIDNIGHT Praying at midnight can be a time of great success to the prayers of a born again person. Which hour is midnight? This does not necessarily means exactly at 0000 hrs (though it can also mean so,), but that time of the night when a new day is being ushered in. this can range from some minutes before 0000hrs to 2:00 am. This time is crucial for a prayer warrior. I give credit to Elisha Goodman who has written extensively on this subject, (maybe you should have a look at his site). Consider the verses below: Ex 11:4 And Moses said, Thus saith the LORD, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt: Ex 12:29 And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle. {dungeon: Heb. house of the pit} Jg 16:3 And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron. {bar…: Heb. with the bar} Ru 3:8 And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet. {turned: or, took hold on} 1Ki 3:20 And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom. Job 34:20 In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand. {the mighty…: Heb. they shall take away the mighty} Ps 119:62 At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments. Mt 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Mr 13:35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: Lu 11:5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; Ac 16:25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. From the above we can deduce the following: God visits his people at such a time, as the gates of the new day are opening. He comes to bring blessings to his people and destruction to his enemies. The enemy knows about this hour and so he will come to bring destruction. If you fall asleep (1 Kings 3:20), the enemy will exchange your blessing at such a time, remember Jesus taught his disciples that the enemy comes to plant evil while they are sleeping. It is a time to worship the Lord. It is a great sacrifice to worship the Lord at such a time, when your body demands sleep. This is the time David would wake up to praise the Lord It is the time gates are opened for blessings and closed afterwards that you may not acces your blessings, like it happened to the maids. It is also the time to take control the gates of your enemies (Gen 24:60) as Samson did. You can lose great blessings at such a time. Intense worship at such a time opens your prison gates, as it happened to Paul and Silas. Arise o watchman; take note of your time of blessings and spiritual victory. The good thing about praying at such a time is that you are able to frustrate the plans of the enemy before he settles to plan evil concerning you in the new day. You can also speak blessing to your morning and your day. At such a time you also posses the gates of your blessings and appropriate them upon your life
