AWARENESS (noun) as defined by Merriam Webster: knowing that something (such as a situation, condition, or problem) exists; feeling, experiencing, or noticing something (such as a sound, a sensation, or emotion); knowing and understanding a lot about what is happening in the world or around you. OK so I have gotten some CRAP about this ALS awareness ice bucket challenge in indirect form and also in direct form. I would like to make clear, that when I choose to do something to raise awareness, whether it be a race (breast cancer, cleft lip and palate, kidney failure), wear a ribbon (cancer, aids, or solidarity of any kind, etc.), or buy something related to Teleton in December... I do it, because I believe in a cause! It is like telling me that in December when I wear a red ribbon I am not doing anything for aids, because it is just not the same as giving money. If I learned anything this past week in my PDM course it is this: there are many activities you have to do in order to reach a goal you have set to reach! In this case raising awareness for a cause goes hand in hand with other activities. I am proud to have done the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge... this has not stopped with me. I have seen the news and read them in regards to this subject and donations have increased.
