AYEF - Consultant, Internship Guide BACKGROUND Armstrong Youth Empowerment Foundation (AYEF) invests in the extraordinary potential of young people. AYEF programs are catalysts of change that help young people obtain a quality education, gain employability skills, make healthy choices, and improve their communities. AYEF is developing a comprehensive learning document on youth internship programs to be utilized as a resource for program staff and partners implementing youth programs focused on workplace readiness. The internship guide will include: overview and importance of internships, how to effectively implement an internship program, and lessons learned and case studies from existing/past AYEF programs. AYEF is seeking a consultant to finalize the draft internship guide, including writing additional pieces for the guide based on information collected from the field and editing and formatting the final document. AYEF staff members will be involved in gathering the additional information needed from the field and will provide this information to the consultant to include in the internship guide. Ideally the consultant will have some background in internship/job placement support and/or knowledge of the needs of youth in this area. RESPONSIBILITIES The consultant will be responsible for the following deliverables: 1. Contract Signature (Date of Signature) 2. Revised draft of internship guide; Deadline: COB, July 30, 2013 • Review draft of AYEF’s internship guide and additional information gathered by AYEF staff to be included in the learning document. • Write additional pieces to complete the content of the document and edit/format the revised draft for submission to IYF for comments. 3. Finalized internship guide. Deadline: August 30, 2013 • Make any additional edits to the document according to feedback from AYEF. The consultant must work closely with relevant AYEF staff and be responsive via email, Skype and phone, during the designated contract period. AYEF will provide the consultant with any necessary reference material, guidelines or information needed to complete the AYEF Internship Guide. QUALIFICATIONS • First Degree in Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, Education, Social Sciences or a related field. • Minimum 3-5 years experience in knowledge management field with international development programs required. • Experience working in international development, preferably youth development, or related fields preferred. • Proven experience in authoring policy papers, toolkits, and/or focus notes required. • Excellent writing skills required. Fluency in English, oral and written, required. Knowledge of Spanish and/or Chinese a plus.
