Hon John Key. GPS Nuku‘alofa. 4 June 2014 The New Zealand Prime Minister John Key visited the Nuku’alofa Government Primary School and the Tonga Village Network Upgrade Project site at Ha’avakatolo this afternoon. Prime Minister Lord Tu’ivakano and the Minister for Education and Training Hon Dr ‘Ana Taufe’ulungaki thanked the New Zealand Government for the additional funding to education in Tonga. “We are most appreciative that New Zealand continues to be a major partner in our efforts not only to improve the quality of education but to ensure that excellence is equitably accessible to all of our children irrespective of their economic and social status or where they live,” said Lord Tu’ivakano. PM Key had announced that New Zealand with the ADB will invest $7.5 dollars for the reconstruction of schools in Ha’apai. New Zealand will provide $5 million dollars of that funding. He also visited the Tonga Village Network site project that upgrades the power distribution network in villages throughout Tongatapu, funded by New Zealand. Accompanied by New Zealand Members of Parliament and media, PM Key departs Tonga for Niue on Thursday, June 5.
