Abancay (founded: Santiago de Abancay, 1574) is a city in southeastern Peru, capital of the province of the same name and the Department of Apurimac, located 2,377 meters above sea level on the eastern slope of the Andes. Abancay is located at an altitude of 2,377 m in the southern Peruvian Andes, riverside Marino Pachachaca tributary of the river. Due to its dry mountains and warm weather all year is known as The Valley of Eternal Spring. Abancay is located at the intersection of 2 major Peruvian roads: the road of the Caminos del Inca, an ancient Inca road between the towns of Nazca and Cusco, and the route of the Libertadores, connecting Ayacucho and Cusco.
