Abandoned CNW deck bridge over the Sheboygan River, looking south - TopicsExpress

Abandoned CNW deck bridge over the Sheboygan River, looking south from Erie Ave in the late 1990s. This is the steep down-grade into the former manufacturing district upon which the Freedom Train GS-4 stalled in 1975, having to back down to the Depot and get a running start for a second try. Even CNW northward freights would occasionally stall on this grade in the days before 1987 when we still had run-through service to Green Bay and points north. Today, a well-lit, paved walking and bike path runs across this bridge -- indeed, all the way from North Avenue to the downtown Depot. Someday soon I am going to cross this bridge, pretending I am a yellow-and-green SD40-2 ... and, thanks in no small part to the efforts of my friend Kyle Blindauer, who never saw a high-horsepower freight cross this structure in anything but his dreams, this path is now called (I am told) the Shoreland 400 walk path. Way to go, Kyle!!
