At the Fiat-Abarth stand, the car maker showcased Fiat 500 cars that are endowed with high performing capability. The Abarth developed 500 comes powered by a frugal 1.5 Litre turbo engine that churns out a top power of 137 bhp. The company plans to assemble Abarth cars locally to keep the prices nominal. Revamped bumpers, powerful engines and revised headlights distinguish Abarth badged cars from the regular Fiat cars. Overview Fiat India has unveiled the small luxury car Abarth 500 at the Indian Auto Expo 2014, which was held in January. Now the rumors coming in from the market that the manufacturer is preparing to launch this vehicle during this festive season. However, there is no official confirmation from the company regarding the launch date or its features and specifications. It is most likely that it will be offered with a 1.4-litre turbo charged petrol engine under the hood, which is capable of developing a power of approximately 135bhp. At the same time, its top end variant will get a slightly tuned motor that delivers a maximum power of 158bhp. This yet to be launched vehicle is learnt to have got an improved suspension mechanism with its front and rear springs getting 40 and 20 percent stiffer respectively. At the same time, its braking mechanism is also said to be improved, which further augments the overall performance. This upcoming vehicle is going to compete with the likes of Mini Cooper in Indian automobile market. It has a compact body structure featuring distinct cosmetics, which renders a sporty look. To start with its front profile, it has a round shaped headlight cluster that comes equipped with xenon headlamps along with turn indicators. It is accompanied by an oval shaped light cluster, which enhances the visibility ahead. In the center, it has a chrome plated appliqué engraved with the companys insignia. The bonnet has two character lines that further compliments the stylish companys badge. The front bumper has a two tone color scheme with black and body color that has a pair of air ducts along with an air dam. It is further fitted with a couple of round shaped fog lamps. This two-door vehicle has a compact look from its side, where it is fitted with several captivating features. Its door handles along with the window sill surround gets chrome treatment, while its ORVM caps are in a dual color scheme. Furthermore, its body is decorated with stylish body decals featuring ABARTH lettering. It is learnt that the company will offer this small car with a set of 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels that are expected to be covered with robust tubeless radial tyres, which further enhances the elegance of its side profile. Its rear fascia look quite dynamic and is decorated with several eye-catching features. It has a small windscreen accompanied by a body colored spoiler and a wiper. Its tailgate is quite expressive that is equipped with a thick chrome strip just above the license plated and engraved with companys badge. Surrounding this is the clear lens taillight cluster that features LED brake lights along with courtesy light and side turn indicators as well. The best part about its rear is the concave bumper that has two air vents and is fitted with a muffler cutter along with a pair of chrome exhaust pipes. The interiors of this vehicle gets a decent cabin, which can host four passengers in it. The cockpit section has ample leg, shoulder and head space, but the rear cabin is quite congested. The best part about the interiors is its cockpit, which is fitted with an elegantly crafted dashboard. The upper and lower part of the dashboard has textured black finish, while its central part has a glossy black finish that is underlined by a chrome strip. It is also engraved with 500 numbering that further distinguishes its exclusiveness. There is a three spoke, flat-bottomed steering wheel that is covered with leather upholstery featuring contrast red stitching. It is further fitted decorated with metallic inserts along with prominent companys badge. The seats in the cockpit are well cushioned and have been covered with premium leather upholstery. The driver seat has electrically adjustable function, while the front passenger seat has folding facility. The gearshift knob gets a silver finish, while the gearbox console is covered with leather upholstery. The company has installed several utility based features like drivers foot rest, cup holders, accessory power sockets, storage compartment and several other such aspects. At present, there is no information from the company regarding the features of this yet to be launched vehicle. However, it is learnt that this upcoming vehicle will come with up-market features, which places it in the luxury segment. We can expect for some of the features like an automatic air conditioning system with two zone climate control, which regulates the air temperature inside. Apart from this, it is expected to get standard features like electric windows with one touch operation, power steering with tilt and telescopic adjustment, electrically adjustable drivers seat, foldable front passengers seat, central locking system, keyless entry with smart key, push button engine start/stop function. It will also sport an advanced electronic vehicle information center that indicates fuel levels, speed, rpm, engine coolant temperature, time, date, ambient temperature and mileage. Furthermore, market sources believe that the vehicle will also come with a touchscreen display with an integrated TomTom navigation system along with an MP3 player, sockets for USB, iPod and BlueMe handsfree communication system. This Abarth 500 features a computer-designed steel cage that diverts the energy caused in case of collision and minimizes the impact. This vehicle features a total of seven airbags along with crumple zones in front and rear, which maximizes the protection for passenger inside. We can also expect for a three-mode electronic stability control, which helps to maintain directional control. Some of the other safety aspects are expected to be ABS with EBD, rear park assist system plus, engine immobilization device and several other crucial features. As far as the suspension is concerned, its front axle will be paired with dual-valve frequency selective damping system that is accompanied by KONI shock absorbers. At the same time, its rear axle is coupled with a fitted with an Abarth-specific stabilizer bars featuring stiffer springs. This yet to be launched vehicle will come with a 0.6-inch less ground clearance, which provides a responsive handling and minimal body roll. As far as braking is concerned, this vehicle is expected to come with large diameter ventilated disc brakes for front and rear wheels, which should be coupled with Rosso single piston brake calipers. At present, the company has not disclosed anything regarding the official launch date of this vehicle, but it is mostly likely to be in October-November season
