Abbott & Castillo from the Redlands Shelter have arrived, thanks - TopicsExpress

Abbott & Castillo from the Redlands Shelter have arrived, thanks to the coordination of Rachel Harriger & Lisa Kuhnle! Our vet is taking a well deserved day off, but we managed to sneak Castillo in for a grooming; meanwhile, Abbott is out for lunch snacking on some empanadas. We rarely ever know the past stories of the animals we rescue, but last week we received a strange call. The relinquishers granddaughter tracked us down. She called to let is know that Abbott & Castillo were her grandparents dogs. Their real names are actually Toby & Bo (respectively), and that her grandfather had recently gone into a nursing home and her grandmother was ill as well. They could not afford the surrender fee at the shelter, so they lied and surrendered them to the Redlands Shelter as strays. She was upset that we were not trying to find them a home together as they are very bonded, but also that we would not rescue one without the other. Yes, these are the tough decision we make everyday. Although there are mixed feelings about this phonecall, we are happy to be able to call these cuties by their real names & grateful that we are able to provide the medical care it appears their original owners struggled to provide. This is a good time to emphasize that it is important to have a plan for pets, regardless of your age, if you suddenly are unable to care for them. Like in this case, their lives depend on it! Welcome Frosted Faces, Toby & Bo!
