Abdication is a choice. Absenteeism is activism. There is power in declining to participate. Dont be a part of a system that wont have you as you are. When those with authority derived from your consent are carefully shepherded away from the voting populace and into a media room, they no longer have the capacity to see the lives they govern. Demand participatory politics, or refuse to participate at all. Ill be abstaining from voting this year. For the first time in my life, I choose not to engage in the farce of celebrating the lesser of two evils. I will cast a ballot, voting for whoever I feel is the best candidate, in the full knowledge that my vote will be swept away by the force of the propaganda machine. I understand that this is the equivalent of throwing away my ballot, and I submit that until the right choice has a meaningful probability of winning the day, it would be a more just decision to discard your ballot than to allow yourself to be used in the construction of the false dichotomy of the US political landscape.
