Abell Point Marina Airlie Beach Race Week highlights fun FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 25, 2013 Bringing back the ‘fun’ will be one of the prime elements of Abell Point Marina Airlie Beach Race Week 2013. Now in its 24th consecutive year, organisers of race week are ensuring the focus of the regatta is what it is known for best. Whitsunday Sailing Club Commodore and Event Chairman Rob Davis said with Abell Point Marina recently announced as naming rights sponsor, this year’s event will revolve around a fun, tropical regatta coupled with serious sailing. “Airlie Beach Race Week is set apart from other regattas and is well known for its ‘lively’ and ‘entertaining’ nature,” Mr Davis said. “It is unlike any other. We want our participants to soak up the atmosphere of Airlie Beach and the greater Whitsundays,” he said. Mr Davis said, each year the regatta attracts both serious competitors and those who participate to have a great time on the water. “Sailing is a fun, social sport and this is what our event is all about.” Always popular among sailors and supporters, the onshore activities which will be based at Abell Point Marina and Whitsunday Sailing Club, are set to attract big crowds, while the town of Airlie Beach is expecting to be abuzz during the seven-day regatta which culminates with the Whitsunday Reef Festival and the Great Whitsunday Fun Race. A competition is currently running to win free berthing over race week at Abell Point Marina for all vessels confirmed before June 30. Abell Point Marina Airlie Beach Race Week is involved in Queensland’s Season of Sailing and is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland as part of a growing calendar of sporting, cultural, regional events throughout the state. Race week will run from August 9 to 16, 2013. For more information, visit airlieraceweek. -ENDS- The Abell Point Marina Airlie Beach Race Week 2013 is hosted by Whitsunday Sailing Club.
