Abercorn Closed Tennis Tournament Day 4 Summary In the first match of the day, the student could not topple the master as the fire power of Robin Third Degree Burns proved too much for Tam Waugh. This has set up a mouth watering clash with another former champion, Stephen Whitby. Once again a match in the Ladies Singles went the distance with Julia Toch coming back from a set down to defeat Laura Stewart. With this result, the Ladies singles event remains wide open. Which two competitors will reach the final and claim the glory? A bumper day in the Mens Doubles provided much of the action on day 4 of the Championships with top seeds Vasile Toch and The Young Pretender Murdo Walker defeating yesterdays winners Bill The Scotsman Lothian and Tam Waugh. Murdo produced several lobs worthy of The Silver Fox himself, displaying exactly what is meant by fire in the belly, ice in the head. Up next, the postponed match from last night between the experienced combination of Phil License to kill Bryceland and Kenny Walker and two of the hottest prospects seen for many a year on the hallowed turf of Abercorn Sports Club; Alex Cruickshank and Ali The Octopus Whitby, was resumed with Kenny serving to stay in the match at 3-6, 3-5, 30-0. An apparent ace drew jubilation from the stands only for it to be ruled a let. Clearly riled by the call, Kenny and Phil almost pulled off one of the greatest comebacks ever, ultimately losing the second set tie-break 7-3. Next up for Alex and Ali, were Stephen Whitby and Doug Harris. After an electrifying opening set from the underdogs in which Ali rarely put a foot wrong at the net and showing exactly why Lotto signed up this young starlet to a multi-million pound, 5 year deal. Stephen and Doug kept cool heads and squeaked through the deciding match tie-break, 10-8. In only the second match in the Ladies Doubles draw Morag Dunkin Duncan and Ailsa Stott put their first round struggles behind them, displaying some fine tennis with a straight sets victory over Janette Allan and Margaret Harris. Will this rich display of form continue?
