Aboriginal Mental Health Outreach Worker MIKI’SIW Metis Association 10 hour/weekly/$25.00 per hour/30 month contract SUMMARY This program serves the Aboriginal population of the Comox Valley. The project will foster resiliency, improve mental health and create a sense of belonging and identity with Aboriginal children and their families through intergenerational, cultural programs and gatherings. RESPONSIBILITIES • Promote positive mental health for Aboriginal families • Network with families & mental health professionals to provide resources and support as needs arise. • Arrange presentations related to mental health and social services available in the community • Work with Elders & Aboriginal education school staff • Liaise with community and network partners, agencies and groups to enhance working relationships in support of Aboriginal family needs. Identify and develop partnerships/collaboration opportunities when applicable • Offer personal support • Maintain workload measurement and data collection as required QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Worker • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Demonstrated ability to work with tact and diplomacy with service providers in community • Good knowledge of the mental health system, substance use issues, community-based program services and related provincial and community support systems • In depth knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal cultures and tradition and ability to work with culturally diverse people • Familiarity with the First Nation, Metis and Inuit in the Comox Valley • Excellent ability to work independently and take initiative • Possess a valid driver’s license • Must pass criminal record check (including vulnerable sector clearance) The Aboriginal Mental Health Outreach Worker reports to the Project Coordinator CLOSING DATE: August 29 Please submit your resume and cover letter to: Bryce Mercredi Email: brycegail.mercredi24@gmail
