About 18 members and family from our club were on hand last night, at the District Awards banquet, to watch Kim "the king" Dumar, our past president, receive the well deserved recognition of the Melvin Jones award. He now joins Pat Baker and Lettie Saheim in this fellowship of distinguished Lions. The award is given by the Lions Club International Foundation. Recipients like Kim are chosen on merit by current Melvin Jones Fellows in each LCIF district. Melvin Jones is recognized as the founder of The Association of Lions Clubs in 1917, which were originally organized for the betterment of their communities around the world. This LCIF Fellowship Award is the highest form of recognition and embodies humanitarian ideals consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism. The recipient of this award becomes a model because of the exemplary service to their club and the community which it serves. Lions globally are united by a great spirit of giving and dedication to helping others. As the official charitable organization of Lions Clubs International, the Foundation (LCIF) supports Lions’ compassionate works by providing grant funding for their local and global humanitarian efforts. Those grants have helped after our local tornado, in many area towns after the flooding of Irene, Lee, and Sandy; and in almost every disaster recovery effort that can be imagined from Haiti, to Oklahoma, to Japan. A significant portion of the funds raised by LCIF comes through the Melvin Jones Fellowship program. In accepting his recognition Lion Kim graciously did so on behalf of his entire family of fellow Lions in the Mechanicville~Stillwater club who he said give so much to the local communities
