About 20 years ago next month the Waterbury NAACP has fought to get our Aldermen Elected by District and even as a suspended life member I never lost sight on this objective we started in 1995. There have been a many of nights where, I would wake up to the nightmare of modern day slavery, in what I considered one of the most racist government systems supported by local media (Waterbury Republican)and unfortunately, by many of our Black and Latino leaders. Well for those who have decided its a great time to rally should be focused on how much we have lost, and just how far we are behind today before we going running to the District Line Drawing Commission giving up our protected rights under the Voting Rights Act. I still maintain that the first two minority majority districts should have never been touched or diluted in this process. I applaud Representative Larry Butlers passion for his Butler Plan, but when he speaks he does not speak for the people who have fought long and hard to make this concept a reality. We are taking about gaining more seats on the Board of Aldermen, not sharing with those districts who have dominated this structure for the last 100 years. Not that any one is listening to what I am saying, I have been saying for 20 years and just like Martin Luther King Jr. dreamed for America this was is dream for Waterbury and no one will turn it into a nightmare in 2015 without a fight!!!
